A visit to s/v Tribull at Peanut Island, Florida
Nos amis Sylvain et Louise sont ancrés à Peanut Island, à Riviera Beach
Le vendredi 21 février, nous sommes allés passer la journée avec eux sur leur voilier Tribull, un Westerly Centaur
On Friday, Feb. 21, we spent a day with them on Tribull, their Westerly Centaur sailbaot.
C'est un tout petit voilier, mais il est "full equipped" !
It's a small sailboat but really full equipped !
We landed on Peanut Island, located in the middle of the Intracoastal Waterway, and walked around.
jusqu'à l'océan et à construire le port de Palm Beach. Son nom lui fut légué à l'époque où le gouvernement avait donné un permis d'utilisation comme terminal pour l'expédition d'huile d'arachide. Ce plan fut abandonné en 1946 mais le nom lui est resté.
This 80 acres island was created by dredging-related projects in 1918 which also created the inlet and the Port of Palm Beach. The name Peanut was given to the island when the State gave permission for use of the island as a terminal for shipping peanut oil. Plans for this enterprise were abandoned in 1946, but the name was retained.
A Turkey Vulture is hovering over us in the blue sky.
There are quite a few sailboats anchored around the island.
But also many huge motor boats docked in the local marinas.
One of our nice encounters of the day was this Snowy Egret. You can notice its beautiful yellow feet !
Her long long hair flying in the wind ! (Reminds me of a song... hummmm Neil Young ?) ;o)
On the island we can see a historic
former Coast Guard station.
And the John F. Kennedy bunker built during the cold war.
The Lake Worth Inlet, the door to the ocean.
Une Aigrette bleue nous a aussi gratifié de sa présence.
We also had the privilege to see a Little Blue Heron.
L'ile continue aujourd'hui de servir de
dépot de matière de dragage.
The primary use of the island will continue as a spoil site.
Par contre, cette autre espèce bleue, on a pas pu l'identifier... ;o)
On the other hand, this other blue species could not be identified...;o)

The Osprey is ubiquitous on the Intracoastal Waterway
Une pause bière avant la baignade.
A beer break before the swim.
On est en fin de journée, le soleil est moins présent
mais il fait tout de même très chaud.
It's the end of the afternoon, the sun has vanished
but the temperature is very hot.
A Laughing Gull close by, in its winter plumage.
Dans l'eau peu profonde nous avons aperçu une Raie léopard.
In the shallow water we saw a Spotted Eagle Ray.
Un héron vert était à l'affut dans la mangrove
A Green Heron was lying in wait in the mangrove
Ainsi qu'une autre Aigrette neigeuse.
As well as another Snowy Egret.
Nous quittons la Mangrove pour retourner sur Tribull,
sous le regard indifférent d'un pélican.
We leave the mangrove to go back onboard Tribull,
under the apathetic stare of a pelican.
It's a shame that there are so many trash-boats in the Intracoastal Waterway.
Nous longeons un magnifique gréement aurique qui,
malheureusement a besoin d'une peinture de coque...
We pass by an awesome gaff rigged boat which,
unfortunatelay needs a little TLC...

For us, happiness is being on the water !
