Une visite à Udhailiyah Visiting Udhailiyah
La fin de semaine du 3-4 février, nous sommes allé visiter nos amis Michael et Kim à Udhailiyah. C'est un autre compound d'Aramco, situé à environ 175 km de Dhahran, en plein milieu du désert. On the week-end of February 3-4, we visited our friends Michael and Kim in Udhailiyah.   This is an Aramco camp located about 175 km from Dhahran, in the middle of the desert.
La maison de nos amis, exactement le même modèle que notre première maison à Aramco en 2001. Our friends' house, it's exactly the same model than our first house in Aramco in 2001.	Voici la nôtre, photo prise en 2005. Here is ours, picture taken in 2005.

Au menu:  Gigot d'agneau, pommes de terre et petits oignons au four. On the menu:  Oven roasted Leg of lamb, potatoes and small onions.
Kim nous a fait faire le tour de la place. C'est minuscule comparé à Dhahran, mais il y a des choses étonnantes. Comme cette place plublique, construite principalement avec du ciment sculpté en faux bois. Kim brought us on a tour of the tiny town. We saw some amazing things, like this public place where every item is made out of fake-wood cement.
Les fontaines ne fonctionnaient pas ce jour-là. The fountains were not working that day.
Celle-ci a plutôt l'air étrange. Avec ses énormes "dents de requin", lorsqu'elle est illuminée le soir, ça doit être assez impressionnant... This one looks rather weird. With its huge "shark teeth", it must be very impressive at night when floodlit.
Nous avons marché le périmètre autour de Udhailiyah, qui donne dans l'escarpement désertique. We walked around the town, over to the desert escarpment.	Au premier coup d'oeil nous pouvions distinguer une tête de lion, mais on dirait que sur la photo c'est moins apparent. On dirait plutôt une taupe. ;o) At first we could see the head of a lion here, but on the picture it's not so obvious. It rather looks like a mole. ;o)
Sur le haut de l'escarpement, les rochers ont toutes sortes de formes étranges. On the top of the escarpment the rocks are taking all sorts of strange shapes.	Un quartier rasé ou qui n'a jamais été construit ? On y voit des rues et des trottoirs mais aucune maison. A demolished neighbourhood or one which has never been built ? We can see streets and sidewalks but no house.
Construit au pied de l'escarpement, Udhailiyah est vraiment au milieu de nulle part ! Built at the foot of the escarpment, Udhailiyah is really in the middle of nowhere !
L'ascension jusqu'au sommet ne fut pas trop dure... Climbing to the top has not been to hard...
	Il n'y a pas beaucoup de touristes en ce vendredi... Not too many tourists around...
C'est très bien aménagé. Landscaping is beautiful.
Sur la route du retour...remarquez les feux au loin qui forment un nuage de fumée grise. On our way back...notice the smoke on the horizon.
Des dunes à perte de vue. Dunes as far as the eye can see.	Avec quelques rochers solitaires par endroits. (On peut voir le reflet de ma caméra à travers la vitre de l'auto) With some solitary rocks here and there. (We can see my camera reflecting on the car window)
Un puit de pétrole, c'est pas plus gros que ça ! On en voit régulièrement le long des autoroutes. An oil well, it's not bigger than that ! We see them regularly by the highways.
	Nous voici sur l'autoroute à 4 voies de chaque côté. Here we are on the highway with 4 lanes on each side.
