Another new sailboat ! May 2006
Eh oui, vous pensiez bien que nous ne serions pas encore 5 ans en Arabie sans voilier !
Nous pensions attendre à l'automne et voir ce qui se présenterait (ici les opportunités sont assez rares).
Il y avait bien un Meridian 25 à vendre à Half Moon Bay mais on le trouvait un peu cher et on ne voulait pas investir trop dans un voilier qui sera de plus en plus difficile à revendre car les occidentaux sont de moins en moins nombreux.
Il y a deux semaines nous étions à la plage pour faire un peu de voile sur notre petit Hobie Cat (qui, soit dit en passant, a encore brisé), lorsque en fin de journée, nous sommes passés devant un genre d'enclos barré où il y a des bateaux. La clôture Frost est tapissée de panneaux donc on ne voit pas à l'intérieur... sauf que...

We had thought of waiting till fall and see what would be available then (here the opportunities that there is a sailboat for sale are pretty rare). There is a Meridian 25 for sale in Half Moon Bay but we think it's a llittle bit too expensive. We don't want to invest too much money in a boat that we know will be hard to sell for the westerners are less and less numerous.
Two weeks ago we were at the beach, sailing our little Hobie Cat (which broke once again), when, at the end of the day we passed in front of an enclosed yard with many boats inside. The Frost fence has panels over it, therefore we can't see inside... except that....

classique et longue quille, il reposait sur une remorque et semblait en
bon état. Un voilier qu'on a jamais vu à l'eau depuis 5 ans qu'on fait
de la voile ici. Sur le côté, il y avait le modèle d'écrit : Victoria
Eighteen. Classic lines and long keel, she was on a trailer and seemed in pretty good shape. A sailboat that we've never seen on the water since we sail here for the last 5 years. On the side the brand was written : Victoria Eighteen. |
Marc a donc appelé le capitaine de la flotte pour vérifier s'il connaissait le propriétaire et nous donner ses coordonnées. Deux coups de fil plus tard on savait que le proprio était prêt à vendre, car travaillant dans les champs de pétrole, il n'a plus le temps de faire de la voile. Il nous l'a vendu à un prix dérisoire compte tenu que le bateau est en parfait état, le grément et les voiles également.
Marc called the fleet captain to check if by any chance he'd know who was the owner and give us his details. Two phone calls later we knew that the guy was ready to sell, for he's working in the field and has no more time to sail. He sold us the boat at a very good price considering that the boat was in good shape as well as the rigging and the sails.
