Voile dans le Golfe de Gokova Sailing the Gokova Gulf

Nous avons été invités par notre ami Ken Weller à faire de la voile avec lui sur son catamaran à partir de Bodrum, son port d'attache. We have been invited by our friend Ken Weller for a few days of sailing on his catamaran based in Bodrum.

Bodrum c'est la "St-Tropez" de l'est de la Méditerranée, connue pour ses traditionnelles goélettes de bois et son chateau-fort à l'entrée de la marina, le "Chateau St-Pierre". Bodrum is the "St.Tropez" of the Eastern Mediterranean, well known for its traditionnal wooden "Turkish Gulets" and its fort at the entrance of the marina: St.Peter's Castle.

Après une promenade sur les pontons à admirer tous les beaux bateaux, nous avons rejoint celui de Ken, "Shadow Cat of Durban". After a long walk on the pontoons to admire all the lovely boats, we managed to find Ken's boat, "Shadow Cat of Durban".

Shadow Cat est un catamaran de type Prout Snowgoose, 37 pi. que Ken a acquéri il y a environ 8 ans. Shadow Cat is a Prout Snowgoose 37 foot catamaran that Ken bought about 8 years ago.

Après un bon petit déjeuner dans le cockpit, nous décollons !  Marc est à la barre. After a nice breakfast in the cockpit, we take off ! Marc is at the helm.

À la sortie de la marina nous passons devant le superbe château St-Pierre, puis nous rencontrons une goélette turque un peu plus loin. Going out of the marina we have a superb view on St.Peter Castle, then further on we encounter a Turkish Gulet.

Cuisiner sur un cata:  la belle vie ! To cook on a catamaran: that's life !

Toutes voiles dehors nous filons à vive allure. All sails up, we're steaming at full speed.

Et qui est à la barre ?  Le pilote automatique bien sûr ! Ce qui permet à Ken de faire un petit somme et à Marc de lire en toute quiétude au lit. Une chance que Lise veille au grain sur le pont. And who's at the helm ?  The auto-pilot of course ! That gives Ken the opportunity to have a nap and Marc to read quietly in bed. By chance Lise is watching on deck.

Le lendemain matin Marc nous a préparé un petit déjeuner copieux: oeufs brouillés, jambon, patates rôties, toasts et fromage. The morning after Marc prepared breakfast: scrambled eggs, ham, roast potatoes, toasts and cheese.

La petite bourgade de Cökertme (prononcer : Tchoketmi) où nous passons notre première nuit. The small town of Cökertme (pronounce Tchoketmee)where we spend our first night.

Lise à la barre....remarquez qu'elle a besoin d'un pouf afin de voir où elle va ! Lise at the helm....notice that she needs a pouffe in order to see where to go !

Belle figure de proue ! Lovely figure-head !

C'est l'heure de la photo de famille. It's now time for the family picture.

Puis vient l'heure de l'apéro Turc:  le Raki. Then comes the Turkish "aperitif" : Raki.

A l'heure du lunch: salade sur le pont. At lunch time : salad on deck.

Les paysages sont magnifiques. The landscape is magnificent.

C'est sous spinakker que nous sommes entrés dans English Harbour, notre dernière escale. It's under spinakker that we entered English Harbour, our last port of call.

À l'entrée de English Harbour une sirène nous souhaite la bienvenue. At the entrance of English Harbour a mermaid is welcoming us.

Tout près de là, Castle Island nous fait découvrir ses ruines romaines. Nearby we sailed around Castle Island and its numerous Roman ruins.

Près de Castle Island nous avons plongé avec masque et tuba et avons pu apercevoir à environ 15 pi. de profondeur les vestiges d'une cargaison d'amphores qui devait se trouver à bord d'un bateau qui a coulé là jadis. Near Castle Island we snorkelled in about 15 feet of water and we've seen the remnants of the cargo of a shipwreck: hundreds of broken amphoras.
